With many low income Richmonders losing the entire contents of their refrigerators, the City has also received approval to provide an additional week of benefits for those who receive SNAP benefits (food stamps), and expect those additional benefits to be activated in a matter of days.

The City is also working with GRTC to provide transportation specifically to grocery stores, so that residents with limited transportation resources can purchase necessary items.  Please visit the City's website for updated schedules.

“I've been out and about in many communities today and power is slowly being restored.  We're in contact with Dominion and requesting attention to areas that have been hardest hit. Our crews continue to remove debris from neighborhoods and all streets will be passable within the next few day. We've been working non-stop to clean up after Hurricane Irene and continuing to assist residents in dealing with this disaster,” said Mayor Dwight Jones.
