Rebate Program Ends Sept. 30

The city of Richmond Department of Public Utilities' energy conservation rebate program ends Sept 30, 2011. The program surpassed expectations, generating significant energy savings, lowering gas customer bills, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Customers have until Sept. 30 to take advantage of the five rebates offered in the form of utility bill credits. Qualified residential customers can receive a $250 rebate for a home energy audit; $400 for replacing an existing tank water heater or boiler with a natural gas high efficiency tankless unit; $400 for replacing a furnace or boiler bused for heating with a high efficiency natural gas model; $30 for purchase and installation of a programmable thermostat, and/or $25 for the purchase and installation of hot water heater insulation.

Commercial customers may also apply for a $500 credit rebate for performing an energy audit, as well as the equipment rebates.

The energy conservation rebate program was launched in January 2011.

Details on how to apply are online, by calling 646-5250, or by email.

Richmond natural gas customers who wish to take advantage of this program must do so by the Sept. 30 deadline. All applications received by Sept. 30 will have 120 days to submit all documentation verifying the completion of energy audits or the install of new high energy heating equipment, set-back thermostats or hot water heater insulation.
