Public Natural Gas Week 2015

Oct. 4-10, 2015 was Public Natural Gas Week! More than 45 people picked up brochures about the benefits of natural gas and spoke to representatives from DPU Energy Services about getting natural gas at their homes.

Natural gas is the environmentally friendly, reliable and cost efficient energy source for home heating, water heating, cooking, clothes drying, fireplace logs and generators. You can also use it outdoors for grilling, outdoor kitchens, heating your hot tub, swimming pool or natural gas lighting.

Ninety-eight percent of the natural gas we use is produced in the United States. There are more than 150 years of gas reserves available, plenty to go around, and the increased use of natural gas reduces our imports of oil from the Middle East and other countries. Using natural gas creates jobs for Americans.

Natural gas is less expensive and cleaner burning than heating with oil. Natural gas equipment requires less maintenance than oil equipment and can be used for heating water and cooking. It’s dependable. When you lose your electricity, you still have gas. It does not require on-site storage in a tank or pre-payment. There’s no oil spills to contend with.

Natural gas is less expensive and more efficient than electric heat pumps, too.

Water heaters can account for 14-25 percent of your utility bill. Natural gas provides an ample supply of hot water for bathing, washing clothes and dishes, and fast recovery at the most economical price. A natural gas hot water heater is typically smaller than its electric counterpart, and can provide hot water even during a power outage.

Natural gas provides ease and precision when cooking. The world’s top chefs prefer the outstanding performance and ease of control of natural gas stoves.
